Die Tri-Coast / The Tri-Coast

Nach dem kleinen Einkauf (ein paar Früchte, Butter, Bagles & Marmelade ) für großes Geld ($ 70), fahre ich raus aus der Stadt und Richtung Norden die Küste hoch. Hier gibt’s die größten triathlonspezifischen Läden, in denen ich bislang gewesen bin: B&L Bikes and Sports und Nytro. Sehr gut bestückt und ich bekomme auch eine optische Schwimmbrille, die ich in Deutschland vergessen habe.
Danach erkunde ich mal die Küste auf dem Rad, aus dem Küstenhighway 101 finden auch die Ausfahrten des Tri Club San Diego statt, dem ich für das Jahr 2007 beigetreten bin. So richtig spannend versprechen diese Ausfahrten kaum zu werden, denn der Küstenhighway ist voller Autos und Kreuzungen, die jeglichen Rhythmus in der Ausfahrt im Kein ersticken. So ganz nachvollziehen kann ich nicht, dass dies hier als das Paradies für Triathleten gilt, denn es gibt, jedenfalls was die Radtrainingsmöglichkeiten angeht, deutlich bessere Gegenden als die hiesige Küstengegend. Aber wir werden sehen, was sich sonst nicht finden lässt.

After shopping at Albertsons I use the beautiful day to drive up the coat to Encinitas and Carlsbad. Well, there is a reason for that: along this coastal strip of 10 miles are situated the two most prominent triathlon stores of San Diego County, Nytro and B&L Bikes and Sports. As was to be expected, I’ve forgotten a few important things and I can get my optical swimming goggles at B&L as well as a few tips concerning bike routes.
Next I take my bike out of the car for my first ride. It’s just up north on Highway 101 where they also have club rides of the Triathlon Club of San Diego that I have become a member prior to coming over here. This route seems nice for showing off but for a real training ride there are way too many traffic lights and cars. So for my long rides I’ll have to look elsewhere than the coastal San Diego County.
